Salmond names Scottish independence referendum date

18 September 2014. That’s the date that Scotland will vote on whether it should “become an independent country”. Alex Salmond made the announcement in the Scottish Parliament, where it was greeted with applause from SNP MSPs. Only 547 days to go…

The most recent Ipsos MORI poll, published last month, showed 34 per cent of Scots in favour of independence (up four points since October), with 55 per cent opposed (down three points) and 11 per cent undecided.
